Good Reads and Podcasts – Week of June 24-28, 2024

I have decided to bring back one of my favorite articles, where I recommend good reads and podcasts each week. This week, I celebrate another chapter in the Book of Life – so I hope to share some articles that are more uplifting to you on your weekly journey.

Good Reads (Audio) and Podcasts

Here are some podcasts and an audiobook that I am currently listening to:

  • “Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy” by Sheryl Sandberg and Adam Grant
I recently checked this audiobook out through the Libby app. Recently, I wrote an article on marathon training and resilience, and this book is helping me to find ways to build resilience – something desperately needed in my quest for finding a new job.
  • The Marketing Millennials – “How to Grow on LinkedIn
LinkedIn is a social media channel that provides a place to network and learn from professionals across different industries. I haven’t utilized LinkedIn effectively. Today is a great day to post an update.

Good Reads (Articles and Books – Not Audio)

Lately, I have been trying to improve my mindset as I navigate this job market. I have been reading “Mindset: The New Psychology of Success” by Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D. Since I have been struggling with the job search, anxiety and depression have taken hold. There is no better time to read this book, as it helped me to reframe my mindset and continue on in an uncertain time.

Aside from reading “Mindset,” here are some other articles I am reading:

  • When Your Employee Feels Angry, Sad, or Dejected” – Harvard Business Review
This article focuses on the importance of checking in individually with your team members. So often, as managers, we struggle with being aware of how your team members may be feeling about a project or outside factors. It is important to check in and let your team know that you care and offer support.
  • How getting humor right at work can help bridge generational gaps” – Worklife
Humor is important in life. Humor can help melt tensions between each generation. In the workplace, humor can help build rapport and the essential skill of listening.
